Coming June 2026: Lo-Fi Woodworking at Genlore Workshop

Since 2017, I’ve been woodworking on my own – making benches, tables chairs, stools… you name it. But everyone knows that crafting beautiful modern wooden furniture by yourself can get quiet… so I’m excited to announce that, starting this summer, I’m finally opening my doors to teach a series of classes: “Lo-Fi Woodworking at Genlore Workshop.”

So far I’ve scheduled four different classes; each with its own focus: Milking Stool, Tall Stool, Chair, and Bench. Class sizes of four or less ensures plenty of time one-on-one instruction. I’ll teach you basic shop safety, design, hand tool skills and woodworking. Over our time together, you will craft your own beautiful piece of furniture to take home (or to give away, if you’re a saint).

Course lengths range in duration from 1-3 days. Genlore Workshop is located at  301 S. Few Street, Madison WI. Prices include materials and a charcuterie lunch – visit genlorewoodcraft.com/class for more information.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in the workshop!

In addition to being a very accessible introduction to the joy of simple furniture making, the milking stool has a large range of uses in the home: a low seat, a step stool, a plant stand, a night stand, etc. In this one-day woodworking course at Genlore Studio, students will make a three-legged stool inspired by Wisconsin dairy farm milking stools. Students will learn a bit of design layout and then jump right in with the spokeshave and hand plane to taper and shape the three legs. A rasp will be used for shaping the circular top.Students can expect to take home a finished stool at the end of the six-hour course. Students can choose either cherry or ash for their project.

This class is suitable for all skill levels. Class size capped at 4 students; students must be at least 16 years old. A small charcuterie lunch of cheese, fruits, meats, and bread and refreshments will be provided. Students should come prepared with a good attitude and close-toed shoes; all other tools will be provided.
